Noho DPW Guys

Special message to the MassLive forum trollers who paint the Northampton DPW workers as a bunch of layabouts: Would you care to trade places with these guys? Summer Street, Northampton, June 2009.

  1. NO, but I am still waiting for them to repair the monster hole in Carpenter Avenue. Going on 3 years now, and a hole that has killed numerous cars, is about 2 feet by 18" and about a foot deep needs to be repaired, but I am not a connected person, so my neighborhood goes untended and unrepaired.

I probably can't blame the DPW, but seeing as how they continually fail to answer my inquiries, I am forced to blame them for lack of any information.

  3. DPW certainly does a get a bad rap. Yet the folks at the landfill and transfer station have always been courteous, and the people in the field do a decent job, considering how strapped the city is for resources right now. Let's cut them a little slack. Frankly, I may be one of the few people who actually doesn't mind potholes on my street: it forces drivers to slow down.

  4. Greg's post on the massive pothole on his street got me thinking. Northampton's really starting to fray. Today's Gazette has an opinion piece about the condition of the streets, and blames the prob on poor planning, the failure of the cap improvements committee to fund repair over the years, and misguided priorities in the use of ch 90 funds: for instance, spending $ on engineering services for state-funded transportation projects such as the planned Look Park roundabout.

  5. I would like to say that I too have had nothing but courteous and efficient dealings with landfill staff. And, I realize that some may view a pothole as a speed limiting device, which is fine, but my road is small, the cars that take it go slow, and the pothole is dead center in the middle of the corner, it really has become a nuisance to all taking the street.

Sure, if there are worse streets that need reparing a higher priority than mine- I understand and even agree with triaging the worst projects first, but I wish they would get to my street soon.

Keep up the good work, Mary!
